HOW TELL WORKS

From the first ring
to a useful next step.

Your phone, your business information and a workspace your team can use. Here is what happens before, during and after a call.

Follow a restaurant booking from start to finish

01 · The call reaches Tell

Your connected number receives the call, directly or through forwarding from your existing provider.

02 · A clear introduction

The assistant introduces itself as AI, then listens for what the caller needs.

03 · The next step is checked

Tell uses your information and configured tools to answer, book, take a message or request a transfer.

04 · Your team has the details

Review the saved booking or message, and retained call content, from the workspace.

BEFORE YOUR FIRST CALL

Teach Tell the things
your team already knows.

The setup is specific to your business. An assistant can only check the availability and information that have been configured for it.

Explore business setup

Your name, hours and location

Set the name callers should hear, the business timezone and opening hours. Overnight hours, split shifts and date exceptions can be configured. These details help with practical questions and booking checks.

Your answers, menu or services

Write the answers to questions you hear every day. Add the services or menu details you want the assistant to use. Appointment services need a duration; prices should reflect the information you want to quote.

Your voice and your team’s role

Choose a voice, default language, conversation style and personal welcome. The AI introduction stays in place. Decide which requests need a person, and set a separate staff phone for those transfers.

Your phone connection

A Tell number needs to be connected and enabled. Forwarding from an existing business line is switched on with its provider; saving the number in the workspace does not switch it on automatically.

DURING THE CONVERSATION

Different questions.
The right kind of next step.

Which actions are available depends on your business type and setup.

A BOOKING IS A COMMITMENT

Check the whole visit.
Confirm the saved booking.

“That time looks available” and “you’re booked” are different steps.

See an appointment example

Time needs to fit

A service’s duration is included in the check. A 12:30 appointment cannot fit through an existing 12:00–14:00 booking when the configured capacity is already used. The whole requested appointment also needs to fit the opening hours.

Capacity means the right thing for the business

A restaurant can use guest capacity, so a party of six uses six places. Appointment capacity can limit how many visits overlap. The current model does not allocate named staff, physical restaurant tables or specialist equipment.

The final save gets checked too

Tell checks availability again when saving the booking. If another reservation has filled the remaining space, the request is declined and the assistant needs to find another acceptable time. It should only confirm after the booking succeeds.

Other diaries need an agreed workflow

The current pilot stores bookings in Tell. An external calendar, restaurant booking system or salon diary is not automatically connected. Discuss any required integration and how competing bookings will be managed before going live.

AFTER THE CALL

A workspace for
the people behind the business.

Give the team a clear view of what happened and who needs a response.

Take a look around

Bookings and messages

Review confirmed bookings separately from requests that need follow-up. A saved callback message does not promise a response time, and a guest preference does not guarantee a particular arrangement.

Call review and recording controls

Review retained conversations and calls marked for attention. Owners can disable new audio recordings and choose a retention period for call content. Bookings, messages and account records are separate from that call-content retention setting.

Access for the right people

Owners manage configuration, access and billing. Staff can help with daily calls, bookings and messages. Invitations let teammates create their own passwords, and removing access ends their active sessions.

An overview of usage

See calendar-month call activity and conversation duration in your business timezone. Export daily totals when you need a copy. Usage duration is not itself a carrier bill or a complete cost estimate.

START WITH A PILOT

Try the calls
that actually matter.

Agree scope and pricing with the team, then test a few representative situations before forwarding customer calls.

  1. An everyday question

Ask about hours, location or a listed service. Compare the response with your saved information.

  2. A successful booking and an unavailable time

Check the caller’s wording, the saved record and what happens when capacity is full.

  3. A request that needs your team

Ask for a person and check the staff phone rings. Try a question that the assistant should not answer itself.

  4. The follow-up the next morning

Open the workspace, find the call or message and confirm your team knows who should act next.

GOOD TO KNOW

A few things
to agree up front.

Browse the help centre
Can I keep my business number?

Your provider may forward calls from that number to Tell. Available forwarding options and charges depend on your provider. The phone setup guide explains what to check.

Does Tell answer outside opening hours?

It can receive calls when your phone setup sends them to the connected number. Booking checks still use your business hours. An out-of-hours enquiry or message is not a promise that your team is available.

What if it cannot complete a request?

The assistant can ask for clarification, offer a message or attempt a staff transfer. Your setup needs an appropriate destination and a clear plan for calls that require a person. AI and telephone services can be interrupted, so test the fallback route as well.

Is the sample workspace connected to a real business?

No. The public demo uses fictional data and keeps your sample edits in that browser session. Creating a sample booking there does not reserve a real table or appointment.

What is included in the pilot price?

There is no universal published pilot price yet. The team agrees your scope, setup, recurring service and usage arrangements before you commit. The Pricing page explains what to discuss.
